What's involved

You can decide how to organise your mile event but here are a few things you'll need to consider:

Picking a Venue - Some things to think about when choosing a venue include:

  • it's size and how many people it can hold
  • whether it has an undercover area in case of bad weather
  • whether there are any car-parking facilities
  • whether the venue is accessible for disabled people

Marketing Your Event - There'll be loads of national publicity on BBC TV, radio and online but there's lots more you can do locally - so put up posters, deliver flyers and talk to your local radio station to drum up support.

Safety - we want everyone to get home safely at the end of the day so it'll be your responsibility to arrange risk assessments, insurance, proper signage, crowd management and more. Don't worry if this isn't your area of expertise - we'll give you all the information you need to help you organise a very fun and safe event.

Event Management - You'll need to prepare for a delivery of water bottles, goody bags, banners etc and organise warm-ups, starts and any additional entertainment.
