Glyne Gap School ran a Multi-Coloured Mile
Students of Glyne Gap School in Hastings did their bit for Sport Relief on Thursday 13th March. It was a very special day for the aim was for every pupil of all levels of ability to undertake a Sport Relief "Multi-Coloured Mile".
The entire school, many of them in wheelchairs, gathered at the coast on De La Warr Parade and walked the mile to raise as much as possible in sponsorship for Sport Relief.
Organiser Alex Upjohn said: "The whole school - more than 100 of us went out there.
We encouraged everyone to walk, or at least take part. They dressed up in an array of multi-colours – it looked just like a rainbow!"
KES school in Norfolk saw Charlie raise cash for Sport Relief on BBC2
King Edward VII High School pupil Charlie was a Sport Relief star for a day – with BBC Switch following him round as he prepared for and carried out his sporty challenge.
Charlie (13) from Norfolk appeared in the show THEM, part of the BBC Switch teenager strand, which was shown on Saturday, March 8 on BBC2 at 12.35pm.
The show, highlighted both Charlie who was raising money for Sport Relief and Joe who attends a project funded by Sport Relief.
The BBC crew interviewed Charlie and his family and friends. Then they filmed the fundraiser, when Charlie and a member of the local football team made an impressive 161 passes over a ten meter distance to cover a mile.
Money was raised by kids paying 50p a guess as to how long it would take for the mile to be completed and they managed to raise a whopping £210 for Sport Relief. Comic Relief then spends the money raised to help vulnerable people at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest counties.

Kent College girls are red-tastic!
Students from Kent College in Tunbridge Wells all went the extra mile to raise cash for Sport Relief. Dressed in an array of red clothes and makeup, hundreds of girls did a mile around the beautiful school grounds overlooking green hills and a quaint church. The students had gone to so much effort, with banners displaying the words ‘Sport Relief’ and even the odd big red wig!
PE teacher Hannah Gibbs said, "The girls worked really hard. The effort they put in was amazing for such a fantastic cause. Sport Relief is a great activity that enables students of all ages to take part."
Sport Relief is not just for the students, but for teachers too! The Kent College event also saw members of staff donning their socks and running a mile - though one teacher only made it half way!

Dear Sport Relief,
Where to start? We've basically gone Sport Relief mad! Three weeks ago we delivered assemblies to all our students, challenging them to raise £5 each for Sport Relief. We then bought loads of socks and gave a pair to every student who paid in a minimum of £5, with a school target of £5000. As part of a Form Tutor Time package, we provided resources for lessons, letters for parents and challenge sheets for students to challenge staff to sporting challenges, with the losers paying a pledged amount. During the week, every student was given the opportunity to run a minimum of 1 mile in one of their PE lessons and in the other PE lesson, they completed an Inter-Form Skills Challenge. Other fundraising activities have included:
Some staff swam a mile and some have even dressed up in fancy dress!
The whole of Year 9 attempted a gym vaulting World Record, completing 5281 vaults in 1 hour - it was brilliant!
Many of these activities were devised and organised by the students who have really entered into the spirit of the event. Individual students have also raised money through sponsored silences, sponsored no jewellery week, a quiz challenge and some of our students prepared a buffet with special Sport Relief cakes!!
Our ADT department has made a giant sock to act as a total barometer and we have just moved to the £4000 mark!! We've lots of promises of money still to be collected and are really hopeful of reaching our £5000 target sometime next week.
To inform pupils and raise the Sport Relief profile, I've also included lots of information in some of our newsletters.
After Easter we are having some celebration assemblies to share the final total and reward students.
Sorry if it's a bit of overload but the school has loved being part of the event this week.
Regards
Matt Butler
